There are places which seem created just for appreciating the joy of living, where time seems to slow down, and flavors, colors, and scents seem to brighten and become richer. One of these magical places is Chianti, that precious area between Florence and Arezzo which was birthplace to the Renaissance and which continues to delight visitors with its otherworldly beauty.
Then there are places like the Canto alla Moraia estate, where nature and history combine in perfect harmony. A welcoming villa in a restored Medieval tower, with period furnishing, a sprinkling of contemporary art pieces, and the wonder of ancient yet timeless Chianti all around.
Our private chef is available during your stay at Canto alla Moraia to prepare whatever dishes you choose.
Each morning our staff will serve you a generous breakfast in the garden of the villa.
The villa estate is all organic, and we produce a limited quantity of wine, grappa, and extra virgin olive oil.
Canto alla Moraia is a timeless villa, or, better, a villa born over time. In Medieval times, this spot was occupied by a watch tower, keeping guard over the Valdarno and travellers passing through. After the tumultuous Middle Ages, the tower was "crossed off", or lowered, and the extra stone used to build surrounding annexes to provide for additional living space.
The current shape of this imposing villa, fortified by inclined outer walls, is one of the most traditional architectural styles in Tuscany. The marquis Cepparello Pasquali restored the buildings of what became this small estate in 1931, and today the resort is also an organic farm.
Canto alla Moraia is located between Florence and Arezzo, just outside the village of Castigion Fibocchi. Nearby, guests can see the bridge over the River Arno immortalized by Leonardo da Vinci in the background of the Mona Lisa and the villa where director Roberto Benigni filmed scenes from his film "Life is Beautiful". The Gucci and Prada outlets are just a few kilometers away, and the surrounding area is dotted by Medieval hamlets and rolling scenic hills. It woud take years to see all there is to see near Canto Alla Moraia.
